Labor story

Retroactive post...

Around 9pm after Sharon had left, I just felt like relaxing in a bath until Benji got home from his black tie event. In the bath I was looking back on the week and so excited on so much I accomplished. My official due date was Thursday, November 15th and I had accomplished everything on my list....thinking what the heck and I going to do tomorrow to keep myself busy?????

Benji got home around 10:30 - here's a photo of him looking very handsome in his tux!

Around 11pm I got in bed and the baby was not settling down in my stomach. It was moving so much and I just could not get comfortable. Finally Benji was in bed around 11:30 and we were just about to fall into a deep sleep when at 11:55 (almost the stroke of midnight on the 15th) my water broke!!!!

I could not believe it. I shot up and said "Its Game Time!" I called my doctor who said to head to the hospital on the UES when the contractions are 60 seconds every 6-7 minutes and this is consistent for an hour. Crazy enough the consistency was right away and we had our bags ready and were in a cab by 1:30! The best part of all of this happening in the middle of the night was that there was NO traffic. We got to the hospital in record time and barely any red lights. Also, the hospital was very quiet and peaceful and not the mad rush of the morning or mid day.

One of the funniest memories was that I had downloaded a free app called Contractions Monitor - it was great and gave me something to do to track and analyze the pain. However, by the time we arrived at the hospital and they were at their worst, of course the 'free' part of the app ran out and at the peak of pain it asked us to upgrade to the paid version. Not funny at the time trying to remember my password but overall a smart play by the app creator - because we paid!!!

At the hospital we were admitted and I was beyond grateful to have an epideral by 3:00am. Benji and I were in a very nice size labor room and we just chilled, listened to music and tried to get some sleep. By 9am I was already 9 cm dilated and very relaxed. However, it seemed that the baby was not just quite ready to come yet. After several several different sleep and sitting positions at 1pm, Baby Shomair was ready to make his way into the world.
I always said I'd NEVER post a photo of me from the hospital, but wanted to give a glimpse of our night/dayt waiting for Baby Sho. This was about 30 minutes before the pushing started. I am grateful for modern medicine and amazing nurses!
After an hour of pushing our beautiful baby boy, Isaac Sidney Shomair arrived! My motherly instinct was correct - my bet was that it was a boy and that he would look just like his dad. As Benji cut the cord, the nurse immediately pointed out that he has the same chin as his dad. He is 100% a mini Benji!
Saying Hello
Izzy as he's called by his parents weighed 7 pounds 13 ounces and 21 inches. So far he seems to really enjoy eating, sleeping and making dirty diapers. We are so in love!
