Izzy is growing sweeter and funnier by the day. Here are some updates of Izzy at 2 years and 2 months = 26 months old!
Copycat - Izzy is talking a lot and remembers everything you say. His GG and Great Aunt Dianne taught him to say "Oy Veh!" The other day when we were tugging to put on his winter boots he let out a big, "Oy!' it was right on cue and hilarious. I've also heard him say a long 'ewwww' when there is something he does not like or 'awesome,' if he really likes something.
Colors - Izzy has not yet mastered his colors. If you ask him to name the color of an object, he always says "green." Then, he'll just start naming random colors until he gets it right.
Time - The same repetitive nature goes for time. If you ask him what time it is, he ALWAYS says, "2:22."
So Silly - He went through a hilarious kissing phase. He kept wanting to kiss me on the lips. It was very sweet but I did not want either of us to get sick. When I’d tell him no and to kiss me on the cheek he’d climb on me and grab my face so he could kiss me on the lips. It was like having a little brother tease you into kissing you since he knew you did not want it. Then, for some reason I told him that dogs and cats lick their babies for kisses. So of course, as you can imagine when I would not be looking he’d run over and try to lick my face and then run away laughing. I’d also be screaming out of surprise and then laughing so its pretty hard to discipline (sorry Benji).
His favorite super heroes at this time are (in order of fondness) #1 = Batman, Spiderman then Superman.
The best part of this age is that he has finally started to play by himself!!! No longer does the silence in the living room mean that he's getting into trouble, rather lately he's been very busy playing with this trains or legos. It's very cute to peek in and see him pretend to read a book or playing with his stuffed animals. However, there still are times that he'll jump off the couch to get a rise out of us! I also have noticed an increase of crayon on our walls and floors......(thank goodness for the magic eraser)!
We still have not conquered the pacifier. The good part is that he only uses it to sleep. The bad part is that he's becoming more obsessive with the pacifier and the dentist said it's messing up his teeth. If 10-year-old Izzy knew that he's giving himself an overbite, I'm sure he'd stop. So, we need to figure this out ASAP ---> advice is welcome.
He LOVES music class - Izzy is taking Music for Aardvarks class for the first time. I had him in the Music Together program starting at 6 months, and it really laid a strong foundation for Izzy's love for music. A fellow mom, who was in class with Izzy, shared with me that Izzy was, "a teachers dream student." I have to agree...Izzy is that kid in class that is jumping, clapping, shaking his booty to every song. He will move to make sure he makes eye contact with the teacher so she sees that he's doing all the moves. All class long you hear the teacher say, "Izzy, Izzy, Izzy" praising his moves!
At home, he's been playing his guitar a lot more. Whenever he wants to sing a song, he often breaks out the guitar to play along. Its also been fun to put on music from past music classes and have our own dance party -just the two of us!
He is empathetic - My all time favorite moment from Izzy's music class when there was a little boy in the class that was not settling in and was at the door trying to leave. Izzy picked up some extra music sticks to bring over to him and signaled for him to join the class. My heart burst seeing how he noticed that the boy was upset and just wanted to make him included. Then, I had another mom share a story when she was reading a group of kids the book,
Nuffelbunny. In the book the little girl looses her bunny and is very upset then finds it at the end. The mom said it was amazing to watch the look on Izzy's face of empathy for the little girl and then joy when she found the bunny. When reading I never get the chance to look at his face since he's often in my lap, but I'll have to keep an eye on his cute reactions in the future!
